چکیده

The exposure conditions which produce hind limb paralysis in 10%, 50%, and 90% of mouse neonate specimens exposed to 1-MHz ultrasound at 10 ø C and at 1and 16-atm hydrostatic pressure were determined for the intensity range 86-289 W/cm 2. The change in the exposure duration for 50% of the specimens paralyzed resulting from pressurization to 16 atm was negligible at 86 and 144 W/em 2 but was almost a factor of 2 increase at 289 W/era 2. Pressurization suppressed the observed half-harmonic received signal at all intensities. These results uggest that eavitation may influence the production ofthe hind limb paralysis produced in the neonate at 1 atm and at 289 W/em 2.

Ultrasonically induced morphological changes in the mammalian neonatal spinal cord.

Light and electron microscopy were employed to examine ultrasonically irradiated murine neonate spinal cords. Spinal cord damage was always associated with functional changes, i.e. hind limb paralysis, and was never apparent in initially paralyzed specimens which had recovered function. Damage occurred preferentially at the periphery of the spinal cord and on the ventral side, though the ultras...

Effects of Nano Zinc Oxide on the Hind Limb Bud of NMRI mouse embryos

Nanomaterials are particles with 10 to100 nanometer size. They can easily be transportedthrough the skin, lung alveoli, and placenta. Materials in nano scales show different propertiescompared with the same materials in macro or larger scale. It is found that zinc element is anessential metal for normal physiological functions. However increase or decrease of this elementduring pregnancy, for e...

Effects of pulsed ultrasound on the mouse neonate: hind limb paralysis and lung hemorrhage.

Exposure conditions were determined for hind limb paralysis and lung hemorrhage of neonatal mice due to pulsed exposure (10 microsecond pulse duration) to 1 MHz focused ultrasound. Spatial peak pulse average intensity and peak rarefactional pressure levels for paralysis in 50% of specimens sonicated were determined for pulse repetition frequencies of 1, 5 and 50 kHz at 10 degrees C and 2.4 s ex...

The Effect of Erythropoietin on Rat’s Red Blood Cell Indices in Simulated Microgravity (Experimental Study)

Purpose: Microgravity causes major changes in various systems of the body in space, such as shift in cerebrospinal fluid, decreased red blood cells count, and electrolyte loss. These complications are very important in space and we should find new approaches to prevent the side effects of microgravity in astronauts. Materials and Methods: This experimental study was conducted on 21 adult ma...

CIGARETTE SMOKE/ETHANOL-INDUCED LIMB DEFECTS IN MOUSE EMBRYOS

We have produced a spectrum of limb defects in developing mouse embryos by exposing the mother to smoke from cigarettes with different nicotine concentrations, ethanol, and a combination of ethanol and cigarette smoke. The critical time of exposure was determined to be during day 10 of gestation (vaginal plug=day 0). This time is prior to the critical events which occur between the apical e...
